Precision Drilling: Delivering Operational Excellence Through Technology Training

At Precision Drilling, training is more than preparation, it’s a cornerstone of our operational success. By equipping our crews with advanced skills and hands-on experience, we ensure our operations meet and exceed customer expectations. As a leader in the drilling industry, Precision is ahead of the curve, delivering cutting-edge technology and a field comes first approach that translates into tangible benefits for our customers.

Bridging Innovation and Customer Success

Our journey of innovation began with the construction of the first land-based drilling rig in North America equipped with an Amphion control system in 2006. This pivotal shift from conventional rigs to our advanced Super Series AC rigs necessitated a robust and adaptable training program to keep pace with technological advancements.

For customers, this means reduced downtime, increased efficiency, and the assurance that our crews are prepared to handle the demands of modern drilling operations. By integrating regulatory standards, Precision best practices, and hands-on experience, we ensure our teams deliver results that align with customer priorities.

The 80/20 Training Advantage

The evolution of Precision Drilling's training programs has focused on bridging the gap for drillers and rig managers transitioning from conventional rigs to advanced technology systems. Our Alpha courses emphasize hands-on learning, ensuring crews fully understand the functionality and capabilities of cutting-edge control systems. This practical approach builds the confidence and skills needed to operate advanced drilling rigs effectively for our customers.

Our training programs are dynamic and continuously updated, incorporating real-time feedback from our Alpha Remote Operations (ARO) team and field crews. This collaboration drives continuous improvement and operational efficiency. Our PDEye technology is a cornerstone of our training, enabling real-time troubleshooting and seamless connectivity between field crews and support staff at our DSC, HTSC, and ARO facilities.

Classroom Learning: Building the Foundation

The classroom portion of our Alpha Technology training utilizes simulators that allow participants to familiarize themselves with equipment settings, processes, and apps used within our platform before transitioning to the training rig. Covering best practices for drillers that emphasize how new technology integrates with safety protocols and daily operational efficiency.

Our instructors bring invaluable hands-on experience to the classroom. Their expertise ensures that participants not only learn the theoretical aspects of our technology but also how to apply it effectively in the field. A group of people sitting in chairsDescription automatically generated

Adaptive Training Program

Precision’s commitment to continuous improvement is reflected in the ongoing evolution of our training programs. By keeping pace with technological advancements, we ensure our teams and customers benefit from the latest innovations in drilling efficiency.

A key example of this is the integration of our Digital Twin Solution, a cutting-edge tool designed to drive predictive maintenance and improve operational efficiency. Our training programs now include dedicated modules on the installation, operation, and practical application of this platform, equipping crews with the skills necessary to maximize its capabilities on the rig.

Extending beyond our internal teams, we have trained over 60 customer representatives on our technology platforms. By educating on-site personnel and drilling engineers on our technology platforms, we enable smoother integration of advanced tools into their workflows. This collaboration ensures that every stakeholder is aligned, resulting in more seamless and efficient drilling operations.

Innovating with Immersive Training Tools

To further enhance the training experience, Precision's adoption of virtual reality (VR) creates immersive and interactive learning environments. VR Technology allows our crews to engage with complex systems in simulated scenarios, providing practical hands-on experience without the associated risks or downtime. This innovation ensures that our crews are confident and capable when transitioning to real-world applications.

In addition to VR, Precision is proud to house an advanced in-house simulator at our ARO facility. This state-of-the-art simulator integrates Amphion, Automation, and Robotics technologies, which are critical to the development and optimization of our automation platform. This simulator conducts advanced training scenarios, allowing us to test and refine systems in real-time while developing the necessary competencies for drillers and operators.
