Banff Energy Conference – The Future of Energy Global Summit, Sept. 22–24

The overall theme of this year’s Banff energy conference — The Future of Energy Global Summit — is Advancing Change in the Energy Industry.

This is an exclusive event for energy company CEOs who want to learn from industry leaders and innovators about the future of energy. The conference will take place September 22 to 24, 2024, at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Banff, Alberta.

Mark Taylor, Principal Advisor of Taylor Energy Advisors, which has been providing consultants to the energy industry for the past 35 years, says, “There are two aspects of this conference that make it stand out from the endless supply of energy conferences. The Future of Energy Global Summit brings together thought leaders from around the world and across the energy spectrum to promote a frank and open conversation around the multitude of paths that will make the energy transition.

“Rather than focus on one energy solution, CCS for example, or on the technical challenges, the discussions will focus on the wealth of opportunities the world has and about the fact that no one path forward exists. There is far less advocacy for any energy option at this conference than I have seen at any other conference I have attended. The agenda gives attendees a chance to attend six or seven energy conferences in one and a half days. Closing with Vivian Krause is guaranteed to have everyone leave with their heads full of perspectives that they may never have considered.”

Key topics

Key topics include A.I., cyber security, clean technology, energy economics, and alternative energy solutions — geothermal, hydrogen, LNG, nuclear, solar and wind.

Key Speakers

Some of the key speakers include Andy Brooks at Had to Holdings Ltd.; Adam Burley, Director of IT, at Rogers Communications; Vivian Krause, Author & Researcher; Kim Lauritsen, Senior VP at Ontario Power Generation; Charles Selby, President of Caledonia Midstream Corp.; Cara Wolf, CEO at Ammolite Security; and John Zhou, Chief Cleantech Officer & VP Clean Resources at Alberta Innovates.

“The fact that there are many key topics, and a diversity of speakers, reinforces my opinion on what makes this energy conference different from other energy conferences. This is not an AI conference but Adam Burley from Rogers Communications is a world leader in this space. Regardless of the source of future energy, keeping it secure in the cyber world is essential. Cara Wolf brings that perspective in terms that all of us can grasp. And, for me personally, the Finance Panel is the panel that I’m most excited about. The challenges of financing projects on energy sources that are emerging, in a policy world that is uncertain, is not an easy task. Great new technology dies a lonely death without financing,” says Taylor.

Special Guests

Premier Danielle Smith will provide a presentation and there will be cocktails and dinner with The Honourable Brian Jean, Minister of Energy & Minerals. The Premier and the Minister of Energy & Minerals both attended the Banff energy conference last year.

“Premier Danielle Smith and The Honourable Brian Jean will reinforce the fact that Alberta is well situated to be a global leader in a very diverse energy future. Hearing this type of policy discussed is foundational for parties to make investment decisions,” says Taylor.
